A rendering of the outside of our new space on W 25th St.

We did it! After several years in limbo, we have officially purchased a space to serve as our new home. It’s not that I doubted us, but…

You know how it is. It’s been a while. I admit to feeling utterly defeated more than once. I didn’t show up to this ministry knowing this process was underway and I had no idea how to manage such a huge project, but here we are. The finish line is in sight!

The new building is more accurately a part-of-a-building. We own the ground and second floor of 207 W 25th street. It’s right off 7th Ave. There are 12 floors total - and it’s entirely commercial. There’s an art dealer, a sorbet maker (who I’m hoping to befriend this summer), a watch maker, and even the primary offices for Democracy Now (I plan to stay out of their way to let them do their important work).

There are some glitches because of course there are, but at this point, I’m confident we can figure it all out. As I’ve said a hundred times - we’re scrappy.

I’ll keep posting information as it happens because I know you’re all curious. Here are a few answers to questions I’ve been getting:

  1. There is some renovation. It’s not a lot, so we’re hoping to keep costs down and timelines short (she says naively). The things that seem to take the longest are related to fire codes and permitting, but we’re hearing some of those things have been moving faster lately (Thanks, Mamdani).

  2. The longest timelines we’ve seen have us ready to move in June, 2027. We think we might take July and August off from worship and major programming in 2027 so we can really settle in to the new space.

  3. This means our big grand opening is Homecoming, 2027. We’ll have a big party, a building dedication, the whole shebang.

In the meantime, most of what we can do is wait for the professionals to do their thing.

Watch this space for regular updates!
