BOOKSTALL COMMITTEE CHARTER

I. FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVES:
1) Mission: The bookstall committee, according to the Unitarian Universalist Association, “cannot only feed the hunger of congregants for UU-related books, but can make it easier for religious education classes and other groups to get the books they need throughout the year”.
2) Provide a warm, comfortable atmosphere that kindles an experience of connectedness, and belonging.
3) Operate as a service to the congregation and as a non-profit unit although we have a positive cash flow.
II. PROGRAMS:
1) Celebrate new authors in our congregation with book signings.
2) Aim to initiate programs that pertain to encouraging reading and learning about UU life through presenting the full range of books available to the congregation.
III. ACTIVITIES:
1) Plan for special events/holidays that relate to sermon topics and other committee programs.
2) Write bookstore article for the church newsletter.
3) Maintain an inventory of books purchased and sold.
4) Keep accurate financial records of receipts and expenses.
5) Sustain the staff that provides the service to the congregation during the Hospitality Hour.
6) Support leaders of RE program and adult education classes with any books needs.
7) Organize and display current sermons and take special orders for tape cassettes of sermons.

The committee consists of members of the congregation who wish to commit themselves to help in accomplishing the mission and be available on scheduled Sundays.
